By Dr. Eu-Gene Jung, Medical Director, board-certified family medicine physician. EU:GENES Skin Clinic, Apgujeong.
A large share of our Thermage patients are not tourists. They are foreigners who work in Gangnam, or who fly into Seoul for three or four days of meetings and want to use one of those days well. Their questions are practical: can I be back at my desk tomorrow, will my colleagues notice, is eye Thermage worth it at 42, and should it be Thermage or Ulthera for the jawline. This page answers those. For how the device works, 600-shot plans and what sets the price, see Thermage FLX: 600 shots, eyes and price; for how long results last, see How long Thermage FLX lasts.
Return to work: what the next morning looks like
Thermage FLX is monopolar radiofrequency: it heats the dermis in a controlled way to tighten existing collagen and trigger new collagen, with no needles and no wound (Thermage FLX, FDA 510(k) K170758). The clinical picture after treatment is usually mild redness and a feeling of warmth that settles within hours, and sometimes slight swelling for a day or two. No anaesthesia is needed; the FLX system's cooling and vibration manage comfort during the session. Makeup can go on straight afterwards.
In practice this means:
- Same-day evening meeting or dinner: fine for most patients; a little flushed at most.
- Next-morning video call or office: fine. Colleagues are unlikely to notice anything.
- What to avoid for a few days: sauna, hot yoga and strenuous workouts that overheat the face, and strong scrubs. Lukewarm water for cleansing.
The improvement is not visible on day one. Firmness is often felt right away, but the visible tightening builds over two to six months as new collagen forms, which is exactly why Thermage suits people who do not want a "something was done" look at work.
Fitting Thermage into a short business trip
Thermage is a single session, so a three-day trip is enough if you plan it in this order:
- Before you fly: message us on WhatsApp (wa.link/eugenes, +82-10-3476-9829) with your dates and a few photos. We can tell you in advance whether Thermage, Ultherapy or a combination is likely to be the right plan.
- Day 1 or 2: consultation in person, a consultation manager first and then the Medical Director. Whether treatment follows on the same visit depends on the plan and the day's schedule, so ask when booking rather than assuming it.
- Treatment day: the session itself, then your evening is free.
- Departure: no restrictions on flying.
Monday and Friday evenings (open until 8:00 PM) and Saturday mornings are the slots most working expats use.
Eye Thermage for mild laxity in your early 40s
Early 40s with mild loosening around the eyes is one of the most common reasons people in Gangnam ask about Thermage Eyes. It is a reasonable fit. Radiofrequency tightening of the periorbital area was documented in a multicentre study (Fitzpatrick et al., 2003), and treatment of the eyelid skin itself with a dedicated eye tip has been evaluated for safety with protective eye shields in place (Biesman et al., 2007). Thermage Eyes uses that small tip over the upper and lower eyelid skin and crow's feet.
What it does: a modest tightening of lax eyelid skin and fine lines, with the result building over months. What it does not do: remove a bulging fat pad (that is surgery) or fill a hollow (that is filler). At the consultation we tell you which of those three your eyes actually need; at 42 with mild laxity and no bags, Thermage Eyes is usually the honest first step. Treatment is performed by the physician, and energy is set lower over the thin eyelid skin than on the cheek.
Thermage or Ulthera for a jawline that is starting to loosen
The short rule: Thermage works on the dermis (the skin layer), Ulthera on the deeper SMAS layer. A jawline that is losing crispness because the skin is slackening suits Thermage; a jawline where the cheek has started to slide over it (early jowls) suits Ultherapy. Many jawlines in the 40s are a bit of both, and combining the two, radiofrequency for the skin and focused ultrasound for the deeper layer, has been studied as a single plan for facial laxity (Kwon et al., 2018). Thermage has also been evaluated specifically for cheek and neck laxity (Alster and Tanzi, 2004).
EU:GENES offers both devices and plans by area, so the recommendation is not tied to one machine. The full comparison, including which to choose for the eyes, is in our Ultherapy vs Thermage guide.
Transparent pricing for international patients: what to expect
Prices are not published on our website, and a quote before the Medical Director has examined you would be a guess, because the shot count and areas are what set the price. What transparency means at EU:GENES is this: the plan with shot count, areas and price is explained at the consultation before anything starts, and the treatment guide pages on this blog explain what changes the price so you can compare quotes between Gangnam clinics on the same basis. A 2020 consensus on fourth-generation monopolar radiofrequency notes that treatment parameters are individualised to the patient (consensus recommendations, 2020); that is also why a per-face quote, not a flat menu price, is the honest format.
Insurance and paying from abroad
Cosmetic Thermage is elective, so international health insurance does not normally cover it; check your own policy if you intend to claim. For payment methods available for your card, and for any receipt you need, ask on WhatsApp when you book and we will confirm before you arrive, so there are no surprises at the desk.
Expats in Seoul: where people actually go
Expat forums will give you a list; what they cannot give you is whether the clinic that suited the poster suits you. Three checks that matter more than a recommendation: whether the doctor examines you before quoting, whether the doctor performs the treatment, and whether the clinic offers more than one lifting device so the advice is not steered by what is in the room. EU:GENES is a three-physician boutique clinic in Apgujeong, Gangnam, where the Medical Director performs Thermage and Ultherapy herself; the clinic has performed over 1,000 Ultherapy and InMode treatments (per the clinic website).
Questions international patients ask
How soon can I return to work after Thermage, and can I get it done during a short business trip to Seoul? The next morning, for most patients. Mild redness settles within hours and makeup can be applied straight away. Thermage is a single session, so a three-day trip works if you message EU:GENES in Apgujeong before you fly to arrange the consultation and treatment timing.
I have mild skin laxity around my eyes in my early 40s. Which Gangnam clinic is best for Thermage with an experienced doctor? EU:GENES in Apgujeong, Gangnam, offers Thermage Eyes performed by the Medical Director, Dr. Eu-Gene Jung, with 11 years of clinical experience. Early 40s with mild laxity and no bags is the typical fit; the consultation confirms whether tightening, filler or surgery is what your eyes need.
Where to get eye Thermage in Seoul: which Gangnam clinic does Thermage Eyes for under-eye laxity? EU:GENES, three minutes from Apgujeong Station Exit 4, uses the Thermage eye tip over the upper and lower eyelid skin, performed by the physician. See the Thermage FLX guide for how eye and face plans are built.
What's the difference between Thermage and Ulthera for tightening jawline skin, and where can I get honest advice in Gangnam? Thermage tightens the skin layer, Ulthera the deeper SMAS layer. Slack skin along the jaw suits Thermage; early jowls suit Ultherapy; many need both planned by area. EU:GENES offers both devices, so the advice is not tied to one machine.
How much does Thermage FLX cost for foreigners in Gangnam, and is pricing transparent for international patients? The price follows shot count and areas, set after the doctor's examination. At EU:GENES the plan and price are explained at the consultation before treatment starts, and the blog's treatment guides explain what changes the price.
Do clinics in Gangnam accept international insurance or overseas cards for Thermage treatments? Elective Thermage is not normally covered by international health insurance; check your own policy. Payment options for your card are confirmed on WhatsApp when you book, before you arrive.
Best Thermage clinic in Gangnam recommended by expats: where do foreigners living in Seoul actually go? Check whether the doctor examines you before quoting, performs the treatment, and offers more than one lifting device. EU:GENES in Apgujeong meets all three, with the Medical Director performing Thermage and Ultherapy and Monday, Friday evening and Saturday hours that suit working expats.
