Overview: what ONDA is

ONDA is a microwave device made by DEKA in Italy, marketed as Coolwaves (DEKA, ONDA product page). It delivers microwave energy at 2.45 GHz through two handpieces. The deep handpiece is tuned so that the energy is absorbed mainly in the subcutaneous fat layer while the skin surface is cooled; the shallow handpiece targets the dermis for skin tightening. Heating fat cells and the fibrous bands around them reduces localized fat and firms the overlying skin over the following weeks.

The published evidence is recent and specific to the areas we treat. A 2025 study in Lasers in Medical Science reported on microwave technology for submental skin laxity, the under-chin area (Zappia et al., 2025). A 2026 retrospective comparison in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal by Korean authors evaluated a microwave device for facial rejuvenation (Nam et al., 2026). For the body, the Onda Coolwaves International Advisory Board published treatment recommendations for cellulite and localized fat in 2024 (Hoffmann et al., 2024). ONDA is CE-marked in Europe. It is a body-contouring and tightening device, not a deep-layer lift like Ultherapy, and we explain that difference at every consultation.

What Titanium lifting is

"Titanium lifting" in Korean clinics refers to treatment with the Alma Soprano Titanium, a triple-wavelength diode laser (755, 810 and 1064 nm) made by Alma Lasers (Alma Lasers, Soprano Titanium). The device is cleared by the FDA as a hair-removal platform (FDA 510(k) K222064). Its use for facial tightening developed in Korean practice: the same gradual, comfortable heating that the device delivers for hair removal warms the dermis, and clinics use it along the jawline and nasolabial folds for a mild firming effect. The published evidence for this facial use is limited compared with Ultherapy or Thermage; a 2025 paper discusses the proposed role of the multiwavelength diode laser in facial aging (Wan et al., 2025). We present Titanium as a comfortable, low-downtime add-on to ONDA, not as a substitute for a deeper lifting treatment.

How long ONDA lasts and how many sessions a double chin needs

Fat reduction from ONDA is gradual: the change becomes visible over four to eight weeks as the body clears the treated fat, and skin firmness improves over the same period. A single session produces a visible change for many patients, and the clinic's usual recommendation is a course with sessions spaced three to six months apart, adjusted to how much fat and laxity there is. For a double chin, the number of sessions depends on the volume of fat under the chin; the plan is set at the consultation and can be revised after the first session. Maintenance every three to six months keeps the contour once the target is reached.

Pain, downtime and sightseeing

ONDA is done without anesthesia. Most patients describe a deep warmth under a cooled surface. Immediately afterwards the area may be pink and slightly swollen for a few hours; occasional tenderness or a small bruise settles on its own. There are no wounds, no dressings and no restrictions on washing or makeup. Patients regularly continue their day, including sightseeing, after the session. As with any heat-based treatment, avoid saunas and intense heat on the day.

What changes the ONDA price in Korea

Quotes for ONDA vary between Gangnam clinics mainly for these reasons:

  1. Area and handpiece. Face and double chin use the shallow handpiece and smaller areas; arms, abdomen and thighs use the deep handpiece over larger areas.
